image FAULKNER AND STEINBECK On 12th February the property from Serendipity Books, California is being auctioned by Bonhams. It's a delightfully mixed bag of lots but anyone who follows this blog won't be surprised with the two pieces that caught our eye as we're fond of 'author portraits'. Lot No. 1080 is a 3 by 5 inch silver portrait of Faulkner 'with pipe' and Lot No. 1160 an 8 x 10 inch silver gelatin print of John Steinbeck. Direct link

image COURT FAVOURITES - RECIPES FROM ROYAL KITCHENS, 1953 Court Favourites, Recipes from Royal Kitchens, 1953. From the jacket; "Queen Victoria kept a household scrapbook. It had belonged to Royal ladies before her and it passed into the hands of others after her, but it was she who made the most use of it. In it she entered recipes of her own and earlier times, and useful household hints. A friend of Elizabeth Craig's (the author) was graciously given permission to copy material from the scrapbook for Miss Craig's use. It has been the basis for 'Court Favourites." Written by Elizabeth Craig. Published by Andre Deutsch, London, 1953. 187 pages. Hard cover with pictorial dust jacket. Some wear and chips to the dust jacket, now protected in a Mylar cover.
