It was not until his late teens that Swiss-born Sandro was taken with fashion (preoccupied til then with windsurfing and snowboarding) but, after starting to design for himself and friends, he was persuaded that his metier was as a designer. Since which time, under the tutelage of Sue Stemp in New York and Murray Blewett at Vivienne Westwood in London, the twenty-six year-old has emerged as one of the most exciting young designers around. His first collection under the name of Saro is certainly one to look out for. Having its roots in tradition, his work is in essence built around subtle and refined cutting and sewing systems, combined with a carefully selected and specially-designed colour palette, original prints and fluid fabrics.
